Embassy Personnel — Roubani Kaambi, Ambassador

Roubani Kaambi, the new Ambassador of the Union of the Comoros to the United States, presented his credentials to the US Government in September 2012.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Kaambi was the Communications Adviser to the Head of State between 2004 and 2006. From 2003 to 2004, he was the Government’s Adviser on relations with ministerial secretaries general, later taking up the presidency of the Forum of Secretaries General, an institution responsible for preparing and evaluating technical and administrative Government action.

In 1994, Mr. Kaambi was Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister, Secretary General of the Government, and President of the Support Commission for Institutional Reform in Public Administration. He served as Minister for Justice and Government Spokesman in 1993, with additional responsibilities for labour and employment, and relations with the parliament, among other duties.

A Professor of Law at the University of Comoros from 2006 to 2011, he also taught high school philosophy in Moroni, the capital, and Mitsamihouli from 1995 to 2003.

Mr. Kaambi holds degress in public law, as well as in history, culture and societal organization from the University of Strasbourg, France, and is a graduate of the National School of Public Administration in Morocco.

Born on 10 December 1955 in Mistoudjé, Grande Comore, he is married and has four children..
